APPLE A DAY
As Apple's Mac computers continue to gain share in the mainstream market for PCs and laptops, the days of Mac users not having to worry about computer viruses may be coming to an end. This technical note on Apple's site reminds users for the first time:
"Apple encourages the widespread use of
multiple antivirus utilities so that virus programmers have more than
one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing
process more difficult. Here are some available antivirus utilities:
- Intego VirusBarrier X5, available from the Apple Online Store, License: commercial
- Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 11 for Macintosh, available from the Apple Online Store, License: commercial
- McAfee VirusScan for Mac License: commercial"
With greater market share, come greater headaches, both for Apple and it's customers.

And one of the reasons that Macs seemed to run fast compared to PCs was that they didn't have CPU hogging anti-virus checkers running. Now this may change.
The price of success...
