REMEMBRANCE
As so many writers and commentators will remind us over and over again, today, Tuesday September 11th is the 6th anniversary of 9/11. The calendar has brought us back full circle to another Tuesday dated 9/11 (image source).
On the physical re-building front, the year has still seen more tussles and negotiations on what should go up on the site. (Personally, I still think we should build the towers back as they were, stronger than ever).
I'm not going to run through the broader impact of 9/11 on all us both as individuals and as a nation. I already did a little bit of that last year.
No, this year, the 6th year, reminded me of the seven stages of Grief. As this site reminds us, they are:
Shock or Disbelief
Denial
Bargaining
Guilt
Anger
Depression
Acceptance and Hope
It's for each one of us individually to figure out where we still are in this seven-stage progression.
Given the situation in Iraq of late, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that as a nation we were still going through the sixth stage of Depression.
Maybe by this next time next year, the 7th year, the nation as a whole is closer to the final, seventh stage, and can answer the question in this Catrow panel.
