JACKED IN...
Almost missed this in the Wall Street Journal yesterday with it being a travel day across the pond:
"Apple said Tuesday the (six) airlines, which include Air France-KLM, Continental AirlinesDelta Air Lines Inc., Emirates Airlines, and United Airlines, a unit of UAL Corp., will begin offering passengers seat connections that will power and charge iPods while allowing video content contained on the devices to be played on seat-back monitors.
The connections will be available on planes by mid-2007, Apple said."
It almost makes up for Boeing nixxing broadband wireless internet on it's planes a short while ago.
I'm already getting used to catching up on serialized TV shows like Lost and 24 via the Video iPod on long flights. This makes it even more of a no-brainer.
I may even have to shift most of my domestic flying to United or Continental from American Airlines next year, Executive Platinum status be damned.
Another reason why iPod has trumped every single mp3 player and will steam-roll the Zune too: Acessibility
Apple has been incredibly successful in making deals with automotive companies to airplanes, now, for installing iPod sockets. Now every time I fly, I won't have to switch-off the iPod mid-flight to avoid "low battery". A mutually beneficial relationship (between Apple and Aviation Industry) that is music to iPod holders ears.
