TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING
Hybrid cars have been on my mind of late, not just because of rising gas prices.
There've been several instances of late when I've been stuck in a serious stop-n-go traffic on the freeway and watch one Toyota Prius after another zoom past me in the HOV (aka carpool lane), with just one passenger on board.
You see, to encourage private market purchases of hybrids, various states are allowing certain hybrids to freely use the carpool lanes with nary an extra passenger.
I'm even hearing anecdotal rumblings the program working a bit too well, i.e., too many folks getting hybrids just for that reason.
A couple of times, I almost drove into a Toyota dealership to kick the tires on a Prius myself.
And then I saw this vehicle on Uncrate:
"The 120 MPH Electric Car ($108,000) is barely wider than a motorcycle, can fit perpendicular to the sidewalk on most streets where parking is allowed, goes 40-80 miles on one charge, and goes from 0-60 in a Porsche-esque 4.0 seconds. While it may not be the best-looking car on the road, it's certainly one of the most satisfying to drive."
May have to wait for a year-end clearance though, at THAT price. And wait for people to start laughing at the sight of the thing.
