OPEN SKIES
While buzz-kill Boeing may have decided to deny us wireless broadband in the skies, floundering Ford has decided to offer wireless broadband, with a Windows XP Tablet PC no less, in it's wheels, as long as it's a pickup.
Company founder Henry Ford would've likely approved.
As Gizmodo explains:
"...Ford, launching its FordLink system for F-series pickups that consists of a tablet PC running Windows XP that's connected to the vast tubes of the Interwebs. If you want to go all-out, you can get it with GPS, too, along with a full complement of small business management software and even a printer."
It's a great idea, given that most of the time, urban driving is about freeways that are more like parking lots, and daily errands with the family and work, that involve a lots of waiting around.
My beef is why Ford had to restrict these just to it's pickups.
I mean, the rest of us urban cowboys who'd look as good in a pickup as Michael Dukakis in a tank, would like this option for our regular old boring sedans and SUVs.
Put it in a Ford hybrid, and we can be environmentally smug at the same time.
