If you read what Edmund Burke was writing about the colonies in those days, one thing that doesn't get talked about, he understood it was a growth investment and that the colonies would be much larger and stronger in the future. He wasn't listened to. Also re: political short-termism, we should keep a list of all on both sides who are preventing social security reform.
