BEING SILLY AND SERIOUS
What do Scoble's Brrreeeport (the subject of my recent post), Dick Cheney and Paris Hilton have to do with each other? Well, as Michael Brooks explains HIS post with that title:
"(Toledo, OH) Dick Cheney and Paris Hilton are working together on a Brrreeeport post together.
The previous sentence, I am sure, made absolutely no sense. I put this post on to participate in a strange Internet experiment, and you can visit this site to learn more of the history of Brrreeeport.
In a nutshell a blogger named Scobleizer invented a nonsense word ("brrreeeport") and is leading a campaign to get it recognized by search engines. Technorati no reports over 500 blog posts on "brrreeeport," and the number appears to be growing exponentially.
Google now lists 22,400 hits for "brrreeeport." I figured I would mention Dick Cheney and Paris Hilton and get a few dozen free web page hits while I joined the brrreeeport phenomenon."
The experiment worked, putting Michael's post at the top of Technorati results today on a blog search of the word Brrreeeport.
I thought I'd throw the words "Abu Ghraib" (third most searched for term on Technorati today) in and see where the "experiment" leads next on the various search engines
Silly, I know, but it's all for a good cause of understanding how memes spread on the web.
Davd Sifry, the founder and CEO of Technorati (via Scoble), has a serious post up discussing how the Brrreeeport meme is faring so far on the web. As he puts it:
"So I just wanted to keep y'all updated. Technorati: 422. Google Blog Search: 337.
By the way, great job, Robert. You've created a whole new meme! And you've got people talking about the accuracy of the numbers that Search Engines report, this is great stuff to have out in the open."
To be continued...
I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than driving with Ted Kennedy.
