"SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?"
What in tarnations is Brrreeport, you ask? Well, Robert Scoble is on a roll with this post, discussing two fun things in one post. Brrreeeport has to do with the second item in the post.
At the end of the post, he makes this request:
"Here, let’s play a game. Everyone in the world say “brrreeeport” on your blog and you’ll be listed on this Technorati page automatically. Heh. There are also no pages on the Internet linked to for that term on Google, Yahoo, or MSN."
Silly stuff, you say? Well, you're probably right. But there is some method to the seeming madness. The experiment serves a purpose: to better understand AND see for yourself how new words propagate via the search engines and blogs.
Scoble already has an update post on the "experiment":
"So, here’s the brrreeeport report. You can participate. Just add the word “brrreeeport” to your blog. Or, even better, do that and then give it a tag too. So, anyway, it’s 7:57 p.m. Pacific Time so let’s look at what the search engines have found so far.
Google’s Blog Search has found nine blogs so far.
IceRocket has found none.
Feedster has found none.
Technorati finds five blogs so far. But only one blog (mine) has tagged itself with brrreeeport.
UPDATE: Technorati now finds 11 blogs at 8:36 p.m. (while Google still only finds nine).
UPDATE 2: Technorati finds 39 posts, same as Google’s blog search at 11:09 p.m.None of the big three’s main search engines have found any so far."
Interesting stuff...for geeks, I know.
We'll return to our originally scheduled programming soon, I promise.
P.S. Oh, and about the FIRST thing in Robert's post above. Scoble introduces a new blog service called BlogCode, which is a cool service for bloggers. The blogger signs up for the free service, enters their blog, and answers a couple of dozen survey questions on the nature of the blog. The service then spits out a list of blogs that are "similar to" the blog in question, kind of like Amazon recommending products based on things you've looked at and/or purchased.
Again, not necessarily a mega-mainstream service, and geeky to boot, but useful nevertheless. Like Scoble, I also found a few blogs that are "similar" to mine that I wasn't aware of...good way to find new stuff indeed. Recommended for bloggers and/or people seriously interested in blogs.
what a waste. If you really want to test , make it part of splogs.
See who just adds, and who takes the time to filter the noise
