SOW, AND YOU SHALL REAP?
On the heels of my posts on the growing need for infrastructure spending by consumer web companies (see here and here), comes this timely comparative data in John Battelle's post today (John of course, is the author of best-selling Google book, "Search"):
"Amount spent on capex (capital expenditure), 05 (estimate): $800 million
Amount MSFT is estimated to spend: $810 million"
This is notable considering Google has 2000 employees vs. Microsoft's 60,000 (and growing competition here), revenues last fiscal year of $3.2 billion vs. Microsoft's $37 billion, and operating profits of $640 million vs. $9 billion respectively.
Not to mention a current market cap of around $95 billion vs. Microsoft's $265 billion.
As the song goes, "It's only just begun..."
