CREAM OF THE CROP
When it comes to tinkering with software and programming, I'm very much a weekend warrior. However, I do love trying out new software, and am constantly on the hunt for new, cool stuff, be it free or for sale, bought shrink-wrapped, or downloaded off a web-site, applications or utilities.
So it's with the relish of a kid in a candy store, that I took to Scott Hanselman's excellent "ultimate" list of software tools, and programs at his Computer Zen blog. It's very comprehensive, with categories ranging from utilities to programming aids.
It's overwhelming at first in its breadth and depth, but there are a number of gems in there if you like tinkering with software programs and tools.
If you're a Firefox browser user, Scott's post builds on my list of favorite Firefox extensions that I'd posted last month.
My only nit-pick is that he doesn't have any specific tools dealing with my current focus, ruby on rails. On the other hand, there are a number of items in the sub-lists that can be used with while tinkering with it.
Recommended if you're a software geek, or on your way to being one.
