WIND THROUGH YOUR HAIR...
I've had a soft spot for maps of all kinds ever since childhood. Every once in a while, you see something out of the ordinary, and this certainly qualifies: a near, real, time "wind conditions" map of the US.
I found it courtesy of this post on an equally interesting "wind resource map" of the US by the Marginal Revolution blog. What's interesting about that map are the seemingly few spots in the US that have either "superb" or "outstanding" wind conditions. Alaska has an abundance, but the continental coastal areas are generally "marginal" to "fair".
Here's a less graphically attractive, but useful global wind resource map, along with a link for similar maps for different countries and regions of the world. It's fascinating stuff...if you're a map geek, or just like winds and windy places.
