AND THE LIST GOES ON...
This picture from the Technology Futurist (click for larger image), while funny in its own right, brought to mind for me a picture caption of our iron-handed regulators in action on Internet related issues.
The picture depicts a consumer eagerly surfing on a TV atop a typewriter, while fielding an iron-mouse.
I would have liked to add a wireline "AT&T" style telephone with a headset-microphone attached, along with rabbit-ear antennas atop the TV for wireless access, and a rear-view mirror, but you get the idea.
You can plug in your own issue from a smorgasbord of possibilities, depending on your hot buttons:
- overtly anti-consumer content/DRM regulation,
- restricting municipal free wireless broadband,
- demanding e911 compliance from internet telephony providers while less than 30% of cellular customers have 911 provided by the cellular carriers,
- copyright protections that aggressively protect copyright oligopolies rather than copyright owners,
- regulating radio and broadcast frequencies while technology makes the very idea of bandwidth scarcity irrelevant,
