SPELLING BEE...
Here's a cool third-party use of Flickr APIs, recently purchased by Yahoo! Type in a word and see it spelled out in digicam/cellphone photos of letters taken and tagged by users around the world...if you don't like a letter, click on it for a quick change.
It even gives you html and javascript code you can use to generate images on your own site (see below)...another example of people power on the web, created by Erik Kastner. By the way, Erik's favorite example of flickr API creativity is Krazydad's Colr Pickr, and it's worth checking out as well.
Here's how to spell API. The power of web platforms have already been put to good use by august companies like Amazon, eBay, et al. Yahoo! and Google have yet to roll out commercial APIs.
The photo speller is just for whimsy. Now if there were an automatic micro-royalty system, one could order t-shirts and mugs with these images and the original photographers would get something for their trouble and a little extra for Flickr/Yahoo!. Say cheese...
