ON YET ANOTHER BURNING MAN EVENT
FUN IN THE SUN
It's Labor Day weekend, so it's time again for another Burning Man festival at Black Rock City, a two-hour ride from Reno, Nevada (more on Burning Man background here and here).
In it's honor, Gizmodo has a post on some of the best contraptions to come out of Burning Man over the years since it's inception in 1986, including "Big Rig Jig" featured below on the left. Here's how they introduce them:
"Writer, photographer, and baking expert Robyn Johnson, from Matador Nights, has put together an spectacular image collection of some of the coolest installations in the history of Burning Man, where technology, robotics, pyrotechnics, and architecture are put together to form often beautiful, sometimes repugnant, but always fascinating surreal landscapes."
The Matador Nights piece for example introduces the Big Rig Jig from last year, as follows:
"Created from two oil rigs, the interior compartment of Big Rig Jig housed silk plant life as a contemplation of the indelible yet often-forgot ties between the industrial and organic world."
Some pretty cool stuff that's come alive in the Black Rock desert over the years. Worth checking out.
Happy Labor Day weekend, all.
