LONG WAY OR NOT
It's been a long road, but this comparative schematic hits home how far we geeks have come in the last couple of decades from Geek 1.0 to Geek 2.0 (click image to enlarge):
It just doesn't feel that long ago.
Don't know about the leather wristband or the night vision contact lenses, but everything else seems pretty familiar.
Can barely imagine what'll it be like to be a Geek 3.0, whatever that entails.
I'll be in my sixties by then.
Can't wait.
What's more interesting about this schematic, is that the relative number of folks who'd identify with Geek 1.0 and Geek 2.0 have changed.
Back in the day, very few folks would even acknowledge they were a geek, and being called one was often verging on an insult.
Today of course, more mainstream folks proudly call themselves geeks, even though they're not geeks in the traditional sense of the word.
With the mainstream adoption of uber mobile devices and wireless laptops, a lot more of us are living the geek lifestyle, whether we know it or not.

Interesting that geek 2.0 is basically dressed like the Mac guy :)
