NOW YOU SEE IT...
Here's a hilarious, bald-faced, and very illustrative post on how a Chinese, state-owned amusement park outside of Beijing is brazenly infringing Disney's intellectual property rights, and trademarks. From JapanProbe.com,
"Shijingshan Amusement Park, an amusement park in Beijing that has absolutely nothing to do with Disney. Japanese bloggers seem to have recently discovered the existence of this park and have posted pictures of some of its characters..."
"Some have claimed that the park is illegally copying Disney’s Minnie Mouse. However, the park’s operators have insisted that the character on the right is not a mouse. It is a cat with very large ears!"
There's even an interview with the President of the park, in Chinese, where he insists that
"...nothing is copied from Disney and that all the characters are original creations (He also says the line about Mickey rip-off = big-eared cat)."
The extent of the copying of characters is pretty unbelievable.
Japan Probe does have a happy update to this story:
"Important Update: After a wave of shame brought about by Japanese media coverage and a a few hundred thousand people around the world viewing this page, the amusement park appears is taking action to remove the most blatant violations…."
It's one of the most egregiously obvious illustrations of the piracy charges western media companies constantly make about China.
