WISH UPON A STAR
I'm one of 75 million Firefox browser users and readily admit it has become my most used daily software application. I like its ability to morph its functionality with third-party extensions and themes. Back in May I talked about some of my favorite extensions at the time.
The latter is simply the ability to save a screen full of open pages as ONE bookmark, and re-open them ALL with one click. I can even set these multiple pages up as my home page, so that ALL my favorite sites open up whenever I launch the browser.
OK, so you regular Firefox users are saying, where is he going with this? There's nothing new in all this...where's the meat?
I don't know about you, but my biggest frustration is that whenever I use a different computer, I have to re-create all by personalization of the Firefox browser, including all the groups of bookmarks after downloading Firefox to that new machine.
Now I admit that being a computer addict with multiple desktops and laptops (both Windows and Mac) in a bunch of places, my frustration may not be shared by most folks.
But consider this...this FRUSTRATION just starts with getting a different computer. If you're using multiple machines in different places and different times, AND you add a new extension and/or bookmark on a particular machine, you have to remember to add it to all the other machines. That can get old quickly whether it's ONE other machine or a dozen (or more).
So, my MOST wished for feature in a new version of Firefox, OR a third-party solution, would be a web-based service to store all the Firefox bookmarks and extensions.
Now I know there are web-based bookmark services out there, and the one I've used for the longest time is Yahoo!'s toolbar based bookmark service.
But you can't save multiple tab bookmarks into that service, or any other that I'm aware of...do let me know if you're aware of something that does.
I guess this post itself is an extension (no pun intended) of yesterday's post on web-stored services, but I'm tired of periodically saving my bookmark files off a primary computer and constantly copying it onto my laptop and other PCs as needed...I use a Sandisk USB drive*...it's very easy to make a mistake and forget which machine has the latest version...and I've been down that road a few times.
You may not view this feature as your MOST WANTED Firefox feature, and I would be curious to know what you might view as the most wanted browser feature.
By the way, it doesn't have to be the Firefox browser...it can be any browser that you use the most. Thanks for listening to my wish.
*DISCLOSURE: The above reference to a specific brand of USB drive was not a paid for promotion, product brand placement or a mention motivated by ownership of Sandisk stock. It simply happens to be the drive I happened to get at CompUSA some time ago.
And the same thing goes for CompUSA...just happened to walk by the store one afternoon.
