One of my favorite accessories for the iPod last year was a small device called Solio that allowed solar charging of my iPod. Back then, it was only available in Europe, and my friend Joe brought me one from across the pond (thanks again Joe, for the gift). Since then, the device is available in the US, via the company web-site; also, the company has introduced a charger for cell phones, along with plug/adapters for a wider array of electronic gizmos. The device has garnered some good reviews to date. It works well, and is relatively indispensable for modestly extended trips away from civilization (aka the Grid).
It's interesting that companies are figuring out that the best environmentally enhanced products are ones that provide unique functionality first, with the secondary benefit for being good for the environment. That is generally the way to the mass market. The Solio falls in that category. At the other extreme in terms of size, are the hybrid engine cars pioneered by Toyota with its Prius, and now Lexus with its upcoming (April 15) and well-reviewed SUV 2006 RX 400hv.
